9:00 – noon CHIP THOMAS WHEAT PASTING PROJECT

(Tuesday September 7 – Thursday September 9)

Gray Gallery- School of Art and Design 

Installation in the Gray Gallery. Tuesday morning between 9:00 -noon. In succession, Chip  Thomas proposes wheat pasting large murals on the south facing wall of the UBE, the Bicycle Post, and beside the vacant lot at 420 Evans St.  His murals will be on display throughout Print Summit 2010.

This event  is free and open to the public.

p.m. TBA (pm) SATAN’S CAMARO PRINT PUBLISHING WORKSHOP

Room 1106, School of Art and Design, East Carolina University

Justin Strom, University of Maryland and Lenore Thomas, University of Pittsburgh Printmaking guild will be printing for a visiting artist collaborative Satan’s Camaro who will arrive on Tuesday. The students and artists will work on publishing an edition for the whole week, finishing the print Friday, signing and curating on Saturday.
Observers are welcome.

Brandon Sanderson, UNC Pembroke and Kevin Bowman, College of the Sequoias. Some 45 printmaking survey students will engage in an introductory level workshop during the scheduled class times and offer open studio sessions outside of classes.

Drive out to Pitt Community College, close to the Travelodge, to see more than 60 prints by three faculty of East Carolina University at the new Craig F. Goess Student Center.

TBA  COLLABORATING WITH NICOLE HAND 

Room 1103, School of Art and Design, East Carolina University.

With the assistance of four advanced printmaking students from Murray State University, Nicole Hand will edition a multiple plate etching, incorporating lithography and color stencils.  Techniques used will be demonstrated and displayed along with the production of the edition.

Observers are welcome.

4:30- 7:30  EXHIBITION: Pulp Culture: Innovative Works on Paper! 

East Carolina University's first paper exhibition in paper art, at Mendenhall Student Gallery located on the second floor of Mendenhall Student Center. This Pulp Culture will showcase emerging artists using paper as the primary material working in sculpture, printmaking, jewelry, textiles, papermaking and creative writing. Laura Wood, MFA candidate, has organized a juried papermaking show and two talks that will occur Thursday evening. This will serve as a pre-event for “Print Summit”  This is organized entirely by Laura Wood, and promises to be a great event. Please consider arriving to attend these lectures and opening.

However, many of the printmaking artists have plans to work while in the studio and therefore have been give a dedicated space and press. It is possible you will find the printmaker/artists at work if you wander through the studios listed at times other than slot listed.

8 – 9:00 am REMEMBERING SEXAUER EXHIBITION

Joyner Library, East Carolina University.

This exhibition showcases the work of Donald Sexauer, Professor Emeritus, completed between 1960 and 2002, when he headed the printmaking department at East Carolina University. In addition several examples of his student's work are also exhibited as a testament to his wonderful teaching abilities.

9 - 10 a.m.  THE PRINT FANTASTIC - lecture by John Gall

John Gall from Guilford College in North Carolina will present a one hour introduction to printmaking lecture.

Oscar Gillespie of Bradley University will offer a 2 hour demonstration on the techniques involved in metal engraving as a printmaking technique.

3 – 5:00 pm DIMENSIONALIZING A PRINT- Demonstration

Room 1104, School of Art and Design, East Carolina University.

Michael Loderstedt of Kent State University will be demonstrating the construction of his paper ship entitled Schiff Geschicte included in the exhibition as part of Print Summit. The cut and folded serigraph previously printed on both sides of the page, will be scored, folded, glued and assembled while Loderstedt talks and displays other 3-dimensional print projects and portfolios. Questions from the audience on all aspects of 3-dimensional applications of printmaking are encouraged during the demonstration.

5:30- 7:00 p.m. Survey of Contemporary Printmaking- Panel Discussion

Speight Auditorium , Room 1220- School of Art and Design

Organizers Matt Egan and Michael Ehlbeck, professors of printmaking at East Carolina University brought together five individuals to co-curate an exhibition that would offer a comprehensive look at the innovations and excellence that are shaping the course printmaking today.
     
A panel discussion will be held by the co-curators on Friday, September 10th at 5:30, in room 1220 in the Leo Jenkins Fine Arts Center. The discussion will followed by a reception in the Wellington B. Gray Gallery also located in the Leo Jenkins Fine Arts Center.
      This event is free and open to the public.

"A Survey of Contemporary Printmaking" is an exhibition that includes the work of over 90 of the most influential and important printmakers working in the US today. 

The reception for this exhibition will be preceeded by a panel discussion (see above). Light refreshments will be served.

Gaze at the huge print from Cannonball Press while sipping on some coffee. Coffee and pastries available for participants of the PRINT SUMMIT 2010 and Parent’s Day in the front atrium of the School of Art and Design under the 23 foot Cannonball Press Banner hung from the third story ramp.

8:30 – 11:00 DIGITAL DEMONSTRATION COMBINED WITH TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES

Scott Ludwig from Appalachian State University in North Carolina will be demonstrate digital intergration with intaglio prints.

Printmaking students have organized a PRINT SUMMIT 2010 closing reception at the Tipsy Tea Pot. This will be a private event for the PRINT SUMMIT 2010, while putting participants downtown Greenville on a busy and fun night. The event will feature work by students who assisted in the printing of the SATAN'S CAMARO print. Food and beverages will be available. There may be a nominal fee.
